About Us
Developing Resources and Opportunities for People and Communities The Minnesota Valley Action Council (MVAC) is a Community Action Agency helping those in need secure affordable housing, viable transportation, employment and training for employment, as well as creating educational opportunities for children. Established in 1965 under the Equal Opportunity Act, MVAC serves the people of Region Nine in Southern Minnesota.
MVAC is not part of the government, nor is it a political entity. MVAC is a private, non-profit organization that uses federal, state and local resources to provide assistance wherever needed. This assistance comes in the form of established programs in six main program areas available for people in low-wage work. Residents in need in Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca and Watonwan counties count on MVAC for resources and opportunities that help improve their situation and quality of life.
Many of the jobs seen in a nonprofit like MVAC center around helping people. Although MVAC positions are mostly in the Human Services sector of the Minnesota Career Wheel, there are employment opportunities in the Business, Management & Administration sector, and the Arts, Communication, & Information System sector as well.
There are similarities between how a non-profit is organized to a regular for-profit business/company. Both organizations typically have management, accounting/bookkeeping, human resources, and media technology employment opportunities.
A couple of distinct positions seen in a non-profit like MVAC can be found below. Overall, many of the job titles & positions of a nonprofit are crafted to the nonprofit’s unique mission.
